Here Fishy Fishy Fishy

Many new pictures of my aquarium, and few of Pippin being sickenly cute as he watches the fish. It is very hard to take pictures of fish. The camera has a hard time deciding where to focus, the fish like to move (how dare they!) and the flash, while it makes the fish very shiny-looking, tends to cause quite a glare if you're not at a good angle for the light to not bounce directly back to the camera… click on the picture to see more of my mediocre photography skills

  • Lunch Walk: as you can see from the Diet page on the right, I've continued my downward weight trend, but I haven't been getting to the Gym as much as I'd like. To try and combat some of my slothfulness, I've started taking a walk after my lunch. Being the geek I am, I decided to see what distance my path was, and the gmap pedometer came to the rescue: 0.429 miles, 72 calories burned. . (2)

Mo’ Money, Mo’ Money

So, for the last week and a half, I've been spending about 4 hours of every day helping a customer rebuild his money file. Financial records going back to while I was in high school, horribly corrupted by who knows what kind of gremlins. During this process I've spoken quite a bit with Microsoft's support for Money 2004, and while I was googling for the some information on why, after we exported every single account this guy ever had in Money to QIF files, and then recreate all the accounts in a new Money file and then import every single one of these QIF files… Why were the reports of your net worth that Money generates not counting his house as an asset?

Do you want to know why this was happening? because at some point in the god forsaken exportation and re-importation process, there is a Y-effin'-2-K bug. His house was purchased, and recorded in money as an asset, at some point in the 50's. When this account was imported again, Money assumed we meant this asset was recorded as 2050. Once we changed that back to 1950, everything was golden.

Anyway, while trying to find an answer to this question, I found a blog post from some guy at microsoft about why MS Money sucks so hard.

It was of mild comfort. At least I know some of the reason for my suffering the last few days. Now I have to call back someone else who's have the exact same problem.

My Thumb Is… Changing

Remember how my thumb is not amused? I think it's more of a deep depression. My thumb is slowly turning into Strong Sad. (more…)

Geek On A Hot Shingle Roof

I was reattaching the leaf guard on the top of the rain gutter on my garage, because when I went to clean them last weekend, I found they were installed upside down. I finished that project and decided to climb up to the top of the roof, so I could get to the rain gutters I couldn't reach from my ladder. I decided to do this at about 12:15 pm today, which for my readers who don't leave their cave much (tseng, I'm talking to you..), the ambient air temperature was in the 80's.

The above is called foreshadowing. See, I did learn something in high school literature classes.

I managed to get to the top of the ladder and onto the roof, which all of a sudden seemed a lot steeper than I thought it would be. so steep, standing up didn't seem to be a real posibility, so I proceeded to make my way to the top of the roof. About half way there, I realized something:

MY HANDS ARE ON FIRE!!!111!1!!11!!1!!onehundredandeleven!!11!

Not literally on fire, but I might as well should have been pushing my hand against a hot stove top. I spun around and sat down, thankful that my shorts didn't appear to transmit so much heat into my buttocks and freaked out for 2-3 seconds. Ow Ow OW.

There wasn't really anything else to do at this point by head back from whence I came. More Hand Burning commenced. I made it down from the roof, and began rinsing my hands under cool water.

In fact, I think it's time for a little more of that. Ow.

And Me Without An Undisclosed Location

I'm sitting here in the BWI parking lot waiting for Meg's arrival in 2 hours ( I miss read her departure time as her arrival time.. d'oh! ) so I've some time to kill and thought I'd make a post about something I saw on the Baltimore beltway on the way here…

The normal Orange terror signs were on, asking people to report " suspicious" activity… but i also noticed a non-descript chevy sedan with 2 guys in military fatigues driving up to, and slowly passing box trucks. It looked like they were noting license plates and looking under body carriages…

Odd, huh? I wonder if there was a tip, or is this normal "Orange Terror" behavior?
