  • Email Signatures That Show You Need More Work To Do: A while ago at work we received an email from someone outside the company that had the most pimped out email signature EVAR. I was so dumbfounded/impressed that someone actually built this horrible contraption out of marquee tags, I saved it, and modified it to protect the guilty. Submitted for your viewing pleasure:

It's a little b0rked in Firefox, as it keeps on scrolling, FOREVER, but I feel that just adds to it's charm. (0)

New Theme

Those of you not reading this in a feed reader have probably noticed the new theme. What do you think? It's a slightly modified version of Clasique from Alex King's WP Theme competition. Also, the quotes database is back up and running, and has some new quotes. If you are really bored, you can reload repeatedly to see them all. If I check the server logs and see one of you has actually done this, I'm going to track you down and find some work for you to do, because clearly you have too much free time.

Update: so, it looks a little ugly in IE, but you should be using Firefox, anyway. Why are you waiting?

So Far, So Good

As I've mentioned before, I've been trying The Hacker's Diet, in addition to my semi-irregular exercise program, and so far, I've been happy. The Hacker's Diet comes with some neat palm based tools to help you track how you are doing. It also comes with some unix tools to make some simple HTML graphs of how your weight loss is proceeding. I've been following the program for about 2.5 months so far, and decided to throw some graphs up: http://rishel.org/eatwatch/calendar.html is the current URL, but that might be changing if I can figure out the static page plugin I'm experimenting with.

Update: I've cleaned up the presentation a little, now you can click on the Diet page I've added, or just link to http://rishel.org/diet. This was done with the handy plugin Pageview.

It's a bit of a pain to get the data off the palm and into the website, as I don't sync my palm much, mainly just backup to my SD card, but if I haven't updated lately, yell at me, and I put up some new graphs.

Oh, another note, the Eat Watch Logs show a "flag" field for whatever reason you'd like. I've been flagging days I've gone to the Gym. As you can see, I need more of those flagged.

Tilty Table == Cool

When we were at the Maryland Science Center, in the post below this one, I saw some very cool tech, using Keyhole maps from Google. The Tilty Table is similar to this DIY project that made the rounds around the net a few weeks ago, it's a vertically mounted projected over a flat surface. The super cool part is you can tilt the table in any direction, and the map will move in that direction. Turn the table one way, and it will zoom out, turn the other, it will zoom in. I'm going to stop trying to explain it now, and just point you to the movie: /me points at the movie

Words To Live By

From the Tao Te Ching:

Fill your bowl to the brim and it will spill.
Keep sharpening your knife and it will blunt.
Chase after money and security and your heart will never unclench.
Care about people's approval and you will be their prisoner.
Do your work, then step back, this is the only path to serenity.

War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Mac is Intel Processors

So, in the famous 1984 ad… Big Brother was supposed to be IBM, right? But We know IBM has been making PowerPC processors for a while now, so why does the news that Apple is going to transition to Pentium4-D chips seem so weird? Coupled with the fact that basically the main buyer of PowerPC chips after this transition looks like it's going to be Microsoft in the Xbox 360?

In Summary: Microsoft now runs on Mac hardware, Macs now run on Intel Hardware, Up is Down, Black is White, Bad is Good.
