A quick interview with John Stewart, host of the Daily Show. My favorite quote:
And as far as I'm concerned, their[The Bush Administration's] best argument for election is, Yes, I drove us into a brick wall. But I didn't blink!
I watched the original Terminator last night. Man, have we come a long way with special effects in the last 20 years. The story still holds up really well. T2 should be arriving from Netflix soon.
That reminds me, I didn't get the mail today. I was too busy with the kick-ass chicken rice soup I made for dinner tonight. Last friday Meg's dad came over for dinner, and Meg cooked a chicken and I cooked down the left over chicken into stock over the weekend. tonight I added rice, carrots and seasonings and got it ready shortly after Meg got home from Open House night at school. The soup was pretty tasty if I do say so myself. Next time I need to go a little lighter on the pepper.
Writing blog posts from a palm is hard. The Graffitti is strong in me, but the hand is tired. there is a joke involving palms and hands in there somewhere, but not for me tonight.
for my 3 to 4 faithful readers, I've found a blog you should add to your RSS readers. WorldChanging is about just that, tech and ideas that could change the world. Why is this blog cool? let me give you some examples. From How Rural India is changing to how a company is providing low cost ways to existing devices to solar power to building an infrared telescope in Antartica that due to the clear thin atmosphere, zero light pollution, and free, environment supplied cooling (making reception of infrared light easier), has the potential to dramatically out perform Hubble, at less cost.
And that was all just stuff posted yesterday!
Also, don't miss the "Quick Changes" sidebar of the right side of the page. Tons of cool stuff there too.
I actually saw what this guy was talking about this morning. A tractor trailer had flipped over on the side of the road. didn't look like anyone was injured and the accident wasn't obstructing traffic. Of course rubbernecking caused a huge backlog of traffic.
Fluid Dynamics to the rescue!
So, since I'm not supposed to ssh out from work anymore, (well, I never was really supposed to be able to, but they actually asked me to stop.) I was browsing for new cellphones, as was our fashion at the time. I don't need a new cellphone, my t610 is quite serviceable, but has some things that annoy me.
1. it has 2 megs of memory. I have to delete SMS messages about every week, especially if I have any pictures stored on the camera.
2. Said camera is really crappy. I know when I bought the phone I thought "who cares if it's crappy, I'll probably never use the camera, but it'll be a fun little toy" and it turns out it is pretty fun, but really, really crappy unless you are in direct sunlight (or near a 7-11). This resulted in me often going "oh, neat! let me take a picture of that with my cellphone. *click* wow, that's really crappy. *delete* grumble grumble."
So, if I found a phone with say, a slightly higher resolution camera and a flash, and a lot more memory, I could be very happy. Lo and behold, I found the Sony Ericsson K700i. This phone has a VGA resolution camera, making it slightly higher than my current T610, has a flash, and has 40 MB of memory. Other features I'm digging: has a built in flashlight, camera can take video clips, can be used as a TTY if I ever need to call a deaf person, and get this. It supports Bluetooth HID mode. What does that mean? When connected to a PC, it's shows up as a BT mouse and keypad. Ain't that funky?
Down side? it's almost $460 dollars. bleh.
Palm finally came out with their wifi card for the Tungsten T3, and now Skype is talking about releasing their p2p VoIP app for the palm. This makes for one very happy palm using geek.
hrmm.
I just looked at my T3. The microphone and speaker are in a bit of an odd location to actually use the T3 as a phone. In fact, I think it makes the N-Gage look less un-sane.
I plan on wrapping up the wiring project this weekend. Also, I'm borrowing my dad's pressure washer and giving the outside of the house a good rinse off on Saturday. I might grab a ladder too, check out if I need to clean any rain gutters. On Monday, Labor Day, we're having a cookout. If you're reading this and aren't some freaky internet stalker I don't know (if you are a freaky internet stalker and I know you, I've probably already invited you), let me know if you're coming over. Noon to 4ish. Lemme know if you need directions.
